Suzy Welch (nee Wetlaufer) was editor of the Harvard Business Review when she interviewed and fell in love with former General Electric CEO and the then married Jack Welch. The two ended up marrying and co-authored Winning, which hit #1 on the Wall Street Journal list and its companion Winning: The Answers. They co-author a column for Business Week and Suzy writes a column in O Magazine. Her latest venture is the book 10-10-10, a New York Times best-seller focused on life decision making strategies. Suzy is a journalist, best-selling author, one half of a power couple and the mother of four who approaches all roles with poise, strength and honesty and that is why I’m Obsessed with Suzy Welch.

Nice interview… you keep getting better and better Samantha. Suzy Welch was dynamite. She has it going on. Think I’ll follow her and Jack on twitter.
Take Care.

Loved Loved Loved your interview with Suzy. Your engagement strategy with Suzy was superb! Her notion of using her theory 10-10-10 “when work and parenting” come into collision was so inspiring for me a career mom. Getting fired from HBR: “I died a public death” was so raw and authentic. And the piece about Jack pulling her kids together and telling them he’ll take care of them forever - was so beautiful. Lastly the mentor question was so well done. I can’t wait to read their column, Winning and 10-10-10.

First of all, Samantha, I’m so happy that you interviewed Suzy Welch. Because two weeks ago, I purchased her book while at Target. I find her to be a fascinating woman. I loved how to she said, ” I was letting my life live me- really reactive in every decision- every decision was based on gut or guilty.” I can totally relate to that. I, also, liked that she said she wasn’t working towards work life balance, but “work life choices.” To me that does make better sense, since we always have a choice (whether we realize it or not). I have been reading her articles for O magazine for a couple of years, now, always great reads. And one final thought, I think it totally adorable that she makes Jack Welch breakfast in bed.
Cheers to a fabulous interview!

I agree with all of the above. That was an absolutely brilliant interview. Your simultaneously tough yet gentle, firm but impartial interviewing style consistently sets the standard of excellence in televised talk, making ‘Obsessed TV’ very interesting and highly informative programming. Your thorough research always seems to cover the subject completely, finding life in the material that gives viewers great insights into the person as well as valuable lessons to learn [from] and apply. I believe that is actually one of the main things that encouraged Suzy Welch to give you far more–the diligent and accurate research that was evident in your questions; you genuinely knew about her and their work, and that curiosity, confidence and spontaneity can only come from one who has actually absorbed the material. Much respect to the lovely Suzy Welch for her candor, warmth and authenticity. And to you for a great one-to-one interview. Keep up the good work.

She is quite brave because people out there who are conservative in their views may not like what she has done.
But I think to strike out and follow your heart is always right.
