Isabel Gillies, “Law & Order: SVU” star, took her trade (sharing her emotions) to a new frontier by chronicling the details of her husband’s infidelity and the subsequent abrupt break in their family. Her memoir, Happens Every Day, is a New York Times bestseller and is featured in Starbucks. By sharing her story; laden with humor, struggle and a distinct lack of self-pity, she is an inspiration to anyone experiencing hardship and that’s why I am obsessed with Isabel Gillies.

As a young woman who was also blindsided by a fiance’s infidelity at a young age- and who often doubts my ability to write because of dyslexia- I loved this episode. It is so refreshing to hear someone speak candidly about what you initially think you should be ashamed of and to see that she survived that time and went on to find a strong, healthy, fulfilling relationship that gave her the courage to write about her past. It was also interesting to hear her describe how she approaches projects with the dyslexic brain. This memoir sounds so hopeful, I can’t wait to read it for inspiration.

I just love the fact that she didn’t let her anger get in the way of healing and moving on with her life. That’s a mark of a strong individual. Too often, people let their emotions come into play when trying to get over a breakup or tramatic experience. Really glad that she says that she was one of the lucky ones-having her parents there to help (so single moms don’t have anyone to turn to).
Awesome Interview, Samantha!
