Samantha Ettus interviews microbe hunter Dr. Philip Tierno aka “Dr. Germ”

Dr. Philip Tierno aka “Dr. Germ” is the head of microbiology and immunology at NYU. He is the bestselling author of The Secret Life of Germs: Observations and Lessons from a Microbe Hunter. Tierno became internationally known for his work in resolving the mystery of Toxic Shock Syndrome. He is also recognized for roaming Manhattan with Matt Lauer to show him the germs he was in contact with on the TODAY show. He is able to convert his research into language we can relate to and that is why I’m Obsessed with Philip Tierno.

Excellent episode! I am now obsessed with Dr. Germ. I will also be looking for the kind of pillow covers he referred to when talking about hotels. He is not only informative but he has a good sense of humor. Very enjoyable!

Loved this!! I attribute my daughters amazingly strong immune system to her first 4 mos spent in a third world orphanage with horrendously bad sanitation. She exemplifies the old adage “What doesn’t kill you makes you strong” I gotta get this book!!
